How to Opt-Out of Pre-Approved Credit Card Offers

One thing I hate receiving in the mail are pre-approved credit card offers. They are annoying, take up my time, and are unwanted. Although sometimes I do like to peruse through some of them to see what kind of ridiculous offer they are proposing.

To stop receiving them in the mail you can call 1-888-5OPT-OUT, or you can write to:

Experian Consumer Opt Out

P.O. Box 919, Allen, TX 75013

Equifax Options, P.O. Box 740123

Atlanta GA 30374-0123

TransUnion Name Removal Option

P.O. Box 505, Woodlyn, PA 19094

In the letter share your name, address, and tell them to remove you from all credit card offers. It might not be necessary to write to all three, but I would to make sure you don't receive any more junk mail.

Credit card companies mail out pre-approved offers to individuals whom meet certain criteria in their credit report. I don't really like the credit card companies methods of going through people's credit reports so they can find potential customers and then send out pre-approved junk mail. I think it's just as bad as the people who setup stands on college campuses passing out credit card applications for T-shirts and other gifts. It wouldn't be so bad, but the people handing out applications are very pushy and rushing you to finish. They don't even care if you are getting a good credit card or not they just want the apps filled out. As far as I'm concerned, receiving this junk mail is very impersonal and as pushy as in person because it's kind of like nosing into my personal affairs and credit history when I didn't give them my permission.

When I was recently looking a pre-approved credit card offer I noticed an opt-out message hidden on the back page underneath the terms and conditions. The easiest way to opt-out is by calling the 1-888 number. Unfortunately there is no way to opt-out of SPAM email offers, all you can do is mark the message as SPAM and hope your email filter will catch it next time.
